June 28, 2003 After endless hours of meetings, reviews of the appropriate stock charts, almanacs, tide tables and racing forms, and a complete rebuild of the computer network after the widespread Y2K disaster, the committee has selected June 28 as the date for the 18th annual Clabby Classic. Once again, while we can't guarantee you this will be the hottest and most humid day of the year, we think we've got a shot. After much deliberation by the committee, we have once again have selected Old Orchard Country Club as the host for the Classic. When you consider the majesty and history that surround "The Orchard", the difficulty of the layout, the always flawless condition of the course, and the warm and courteous galleries, we're sure you'll agree with our selection. Website Warning: Possible useful information follows: Directions to Old Orchard: Take Garden State Parkway to Exit 105. After toll, take Route 36 East, 6 traffic lights to Monmouth Road (Route 71) and turn left. This is approximately 3 miles from the Parkway. The club entrance is 1/4 mile on the left. UPDATE: According to a world-renowned golf historian who recently contacted the committee, Old Orchard was designed by fabled golf course architect A. W. Tillinghast. While this comes as no surprise to those of us who have been sorely tested by The Orchard's rigorous layout, we thought it would be of interest to some of you. In fact, said world-renowned historian is looking for more info on Old Orchard. He particularly would like to know if the course was ever known as Myosotis CC (catchy isn't it?) in the late 1920's. Please email the committee with any information, I'm sure credit in the researcher's next book will be duly noted.
