Letter dated 2/27/90 from Paul Morris to Michael Clabby regarding potential Classic hiatus:
Mr. Michael Clabby
3127 North Racine Ave
Chicago IL 60657
Dear Clubber:
I was deeply troubled to learn of the possible suspension or even cancellation
of the prestigious Clabby Classic. Despite my despair, I realized
responsibility for the Classic falls once again on my broad shoulders.
But I guess I am not telling you anything you do not already know.
Fortunately, after polling some of the great names of Classics gone
by (Mahon, Micioni, Prentice), there seems to be help for me this year.
Perhaps even Chuck Rooney and Putter Clabby will finally step up
and lend some support.
The turnout may be lower than in past years without the active participation
of the truly great one. The man's drawing power is obvious to all
golf enthusiasts on the East Coast. The Classic will live on because
we are all Clabbys at heart. We can not and will not let the Clabby
Classic spirit die! The address list is all we need to resurrect
the Classic.
Mike, have your girl call my girl and we'll trade dates for the Classic
to take place. By the way, a groundswell is building to use the Classic
as a vehicle to raise funds for a worthy charity. Hello to Susan
and the lovely Katie.
Best regards,
Paul M. Morris
Sergeant at Arms
