Letter dated 12/18/90 from John Capperella to Joe Clabby attempting to expain 5 month delay in Classic entry fee payment:
Mr. Joseph Clabby
Executive Director-Golden Ball Committee
140 Lewis Lane
Fair Haven, NJ 07704
Dear Sir:
Enclosed you will find remittance for the 1990 Clabby Classic to cover the participation of John A. Capperella, Jr. I regret this delay in payment, and as consideration for your patience, my counsel has placed the following concessions on the table:
1. I will not seek compensatory damages for placing my winnings from the "kicker" in the hands of your brother and fellow Golden Ball Committe member, Michael Clabby. The younger Clabby, a well known thief, has failed to forward the winnings to this date.
2. I will also pardon his co-conspirators Alan L. Revercomb (aka "A. Rivercom") and Renato Iregui (aka "Renato Inegri" or "the Collerboneless wonder").
3. I will no longer pursue legal action concerning my induction into the Golden Ball Club for the year 1990 (although I cannot guarantee that other would-be members who are currently being ripped off by your second rate record keeping system will do the same). Anyhow, it seems as though you've already made up your minds.
4. I hereby offer my extensive computer skills to update and enhance the previously mentioned "second rate" record keeping system. This is a one time offer only.
Having said all of this, I once again apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely hope that this money will go toward something useful (say, for instance, golf lessons for yourself . . . specifically right handed golf lessons). I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Golden Ball Committtee and all of the Clabby Clan the very best this holiday season (please extend said greetings to your Mom and Dad), and I look very much forward to the next time we follow Craig Parry around Medinah together.
Respectfully yours,
John A. Capperella
1991 Golden Ball Club Candidate
(Please note-I hope this candidacy will not be a problem. Otherwise, the whole "legal thing" will have to start over, and no one wants that. Also, please note that I am not pleading A. Revercomb's case.)
